Darija — Moroccan Arabic

Moroccan darija books

Vocabulary, verbs and guides to learn the living Arabic of Morocco — the one spoken in the street, at home and with family.

Moroccan darija (الدارجة) is the variety of Arabic spoken by over 30 million people in Morocco. You will not learn it from Modern Standard Arabic textbooks — its rules, vocabulary and phonetics are different. Our darija books collect the most used words and verbs, with accessible phonetic transcription, real-context examples and native pronunciation audio.

Why learn darija (and not just MSA)?

If your goal is to travel to Morocco, communicate with Moroccan family, understand Moroccan music or cinema, or work with Hispano-Moroccan communities, you need darija. Modern Standard Arabic is for formal texts, news and academic discourse — people in their day-to-day life do not speak like that. It is like learning Latin and expecting to talk to a Spanish person today: it covers the base, not the reality. Ideally you learn both: MSA gives you structure, darija gives you the street.
